Skins is a BAFTA-winning British teen drama that follows a group of teenagers in Bristol, South West England, through the two years of sixth form. The controversial plot line explores issues such as dysfunctional families, mental illness (including eating disorders), sexual orientation identity, substance abuse and death. The show was created by father and son television writers Bryan Elsley and Jamie Brittain for Company Pictures, and premiered on E4 on 25 January 2007.
The show is known for its casting of amateur actors and young writers. The cast are entirely replaced every two series, when the characters leave sixth form. Skins has broadcast four seasons, and has been commissioned up to a sixth. A Skins film is also in production, as well as an American adaptation by MTV.

Series One and Two focuses on a group of British teens tries to grow up and learn about love and life with little adult supervision (And lots of PARTYING). Sid tries to be everyone's friend and usually ends up on the short end of the stick. He is mostly manipulated by best friend Tony, whose girlfriend Michelle he is in love with. Tony is one to try anything once, including every girl he meets. He manipulates not only Sid and Michelle but anyone else who will let him. Anwar is just looking to lose his virginity. Maxxie is along for the ride and dealing with his homosexuality. Cassie is in love with Sid but has some mental issues. The parents are trying to grow up too and the teachers are being their friends and lovers so they only have each other.

The show explores several controversial themes in their grueling realism, including mental illness, dysfunctional family life, the club scene, sexual orientation, substance abuse, and death. All of this in addition to the more typical teen drama plots revolving around friendships, love, and sex.
Bryan Elsely and Jamie Brittain wrote the pilot and continue to heavily influence the writing team, also consisting of teens. The show premiered on E4 in January 2007. A unique quality about the show is that it brings in a new group or generation of cast members every two seasons. Skins is currently on its fifth series or season and it's 3rd generation of characters.
The show has served as a launching pad for first-time actors. For many of the stars, it's their first gig, but for many of them, it won't be their last. The first generation consisted of Tony Stonem (Nicholas Hoult), Michelle Richardson (April Pearson), Sid Jenkins (Mike Bailey), Cassie Ainsworth (Hannah Murray), Chris Miles (Joe Dempsie), Jal Fazer (Larissa Wilson), Maxxie Oliver (Mitch Hewer), Anwar Kharral (Dev Patel), and Effy Stonem (Kaya Scodelario). The second generation consisted of Effy Stonem (Kaya Scodelario), Pandora Moon (Lisa Blackwell), Thomas Tomone (Merveille Lukeba), James Cook (Jack O'Connell), Freddie McLair (Luke Pasqualino), JJ Jones (Ollie Barbieri), Emily Fitch (Kathryn Prescott), Katie Fitch (Megan Prescott), and Naomi Campbell (Lily Loveless). The third generation consisted of Franky Fitzgerald (Dakota Blue Richards), Alo Creevey (Will Merrick), Rich Hardbeck (Alexander Arnold), Mini McGuinness (Freya Mavor), Liv Malone (Laya Lewis), Grace Violet Blood (Jessica Sula), Nick Levan (Sean Teale), and Matty Levan (Sebastian De Souza).
